Government is prepared to socapt the nomination by the

} Canton Government of Mr. Kong Siu-lui (

to the poet of Superintendent of the Chinese Telegraph

Administration in Hong Kong. I shall be glad, there-

fore, if you will be good enough to convey this infor-

nation to the Canton Government.

In soospting this mamination however this

Covernment does not regade from ite position that the

@ontinuance of the Chinese Telegraph office under a

Chinese officiel in Hong Kong is an upsetisinstory

arrangement which thie Government ocmaidors should not

be perpetuated.
